Questions & Answers
Q: Can I purchase a DryLanai® automatic rain control system at my local electronics, hardware or home improvement store?
A: No. Currently, DryLanai can be purchased only from PJNF Technologies, Inc., 999 Vanderbilt Beach Rd. Suite 200 Naples, FL 34108 Telephone (239) 325-1890.
Q: How many storm shutters can the DryLanai system control?
A: Each Wall Controller can control up to four shutter motors. For larger lanais or terraces with more than four shutter motors, multiple Wall Controllers can be used.
Q: Can the Wall Controller be installed by a customer with ordinary household skills?
A: It’s possible, but not recommended. A licensed electrician can determine if your present wiring meets the electrical safety codes, make corrections if it isn’t, and install your Wall Controller safely and efficiently. The Product Warranty is not applicable if the Wall Controller is installed incorrectly.
Q: What is the difference between the auto mode and the manual mode?
A: In the auto (automatic) mode, the Wall Controller is activated by signals from the Rain Sensors. This is the normal operating mode of the system. In the manual mode, the Wall Controller is not activated by signals from the Rain Sensors. This enables you to clean the surfaces of the Rain Sensors or use liquids such as water, cleaning solutions or insect spray in the vicinity of the Rain Sensors without causing accidental closure of the shutters.
Q: What happens if I switch the Wall Controller to manual mode and forget to reset it to auto?
A: The Wall Controller automatically resets to the auto mode sixty minutes after having been set to the manual mode.
Q: Do I have to switch to the manual mode to raise or lower shutters with the touch pads on the Wall Controller panel?
A: No. The touch pads function in both modes.
Q: How do the touch pads on the Wall Controller work?
A: When you touch a zone pad (you don’t have to push it) the LED above it lights up. Then, while the LED is lit, touch the ▲pad or ▼pad to raise or lower the shutter(s) in that zone, and touch the ■ (stop) pad to stop the shutter motion.
Q: Can I use the touch pads on the Wall Controller to raise or lower my shutters to an intermediate position?
A: Yes. You can raise the shutters in each zone independently and stop them in different intermediate positions, or you can raise all the shutters simultaneously and stop them in the same intermediate position.
Q: Do I have to touch the STOP pad after the shutters go completely up or down?
A: No. The built-in limit switches in the shutter motors will automatically stop your shutters when they are in their extreme positions. The ZONE switch lights on the Wall Controller panel will go out approximately 60 seconds after you touched the pads, and line voltage will be removed from the motor limit switches. This is equivalent to putting conventional wall switches in the middle or “neutral” position.
Q: Where should I locate the Rain Sensors?
A: Rain Sensors should be located 12 inches or less inside the plane of the shutters with the detection grids facing outdoors. Placing the Rain Sensors inside the plane of the shutters protects them from rain while the shutters are down and greatly extends their useful life. Be careful not to place the Rain Sensors where they can be impacted by the shutters when they come down. Avoid locating Rain Sensors near heavy metal objects, such as furniture, if possible.
